SUMMARY
This work shows how it is necessary for the practical surgeon veterinary
to submit in every case to the serum research for CPF, EC, BB, the dogs
which are asymptomatic and which may prove positive.
The authors preferred to give more space to diagrams and charts instead
of text, believing this way will be more effective.
INTRODUCTION
Cardiopulmonary Filariasis, Erlichiosis and Borreliosis, are very diffused
diseases, and they are transmitted by insect vectors.
First of all Cardiopulmonary Filariasis, caused by Dirofilaria Immitis,
a nematode which lives in the heart and in pulmonary arteries , is a daily
challenge for practical surgeon veterinary, who needs easy-to-use, economic,
and easy-to-interpret instruments to diagnose this disease.
Nevertheless, Erlichiosis, caused by Erlichia Canis, a Gram negative bacterium,
member of the subgroup of Proteobacteria (Beaufils J.P et al, 1995). the
organism multiplies within circulating mononuclear cells (haematophages,
scavenger cells, haemal lymphocytes, etc), and Borreliosis or Lyme disease,
caused by Borrelia Burgdorferi, a flagellated spirochete which lives in
ticks ownin to gender Ixodidae (Straubinger R.K., 2000), and which are
rare to find in our dogs and in the provinces where the authors use to
work. Both diseases are either asymptomatic at the beginning, or with
clinical non- pathognomic symptoms, and a precocious diagnosis is very
important.
Test Snap 3Dx distributed by Idexx, is one of the most versatile tests
available today. Using this test is possible to diagnose these three diseases
with few drops of blood-plasma-serum.
MATERIALS
The authors used the Snap 3Dx Kit, a test for the Filaria antigen , the
Borrelia Burgdorferi antibody, and Erlichia canis antibody.
METHODS
Searching for Ag C.P.F. / Ab E.C./ Ab B.B. on whole blood, serum or plasma,
1101 samples have been take from the cephalic vein of dogs during routine
reasons: physical exams, vaccinations, or dermatological, cardiac examinations,
etc.
Blood samples have been taken exclusively from dogs which didn't show
any symptom of Filariasis, Erlichiosis, Borreliosis.
